SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTJanuary, 2008 Dear Friends This month marks the 22nd anniversary of the first Special Clothes mailing. In the intervening years so many warm and lasting relationships have been forged and though we have never met face-to-face, your familiar voices are those of friends. This work has given my days more meaning than I could ever have imagined, and for more than two decades I have been so very grateful to have you and your children in my life. The time has come, however, for me to pursue other professional interests. I am ready to pass the torch to someone else with the dedication and energy to do this work. I do not yet know who that will be, and I am offering this opportunity first to those in the Special Clothes family located in the U.S. I believe that a parent or group of parents will be best suited to this task, as it is you who are most able to understand what is needed by others in similar situations. Every last thing necessary to do this work will be acquired in the sale. Beyond that, the right person (s) will have integrity and a strong work ethic, good organizational skills, some familiarity with sewing and fabrics, and - above all - heart. That quality is more important than specific business training, which is why I am not publicizing the sale to the general public at this time. If you are not interested, please let others who might be know of this opportunity. Keeping this enterprise within the disability community is the best way to insure that these products will continue to be available for those who depend on them. We have carefully considered how to make the transition easiest for us and whoever will continue this work. As you look through the catalogue you will see that the most basic and essential items continue to be available, while others have been discontinued. We regret the inconvenience this may cause, but it is unavoidable while we prepare for this change. All current orders for these items will be filled. So - if you are looking for a way to make a real difference in the world, if you want an occupation that is meaningful and personally rewarding and you are willing to work hard, and if your heart beats faster at the thought of owning a business such as Special Clothes, please send us a self-addressed envelope and we will provide more information. We are asking for postal inquiries only as our general e-mail is already overwhelming. SPECIAL CLOTHES, PO BOX 333, HARWICH, MA 02645. With very best regards, Judi
